Croatian NBA Stars in Greece Night Club Brawl After Losing to Greece

July 9, 2024

ATHENS – Hours after losing to Greece in Athens in an Olympic basketball qualifier, Croatian NBA players Dario Saric and Ivica Zubac were caught up in bar fight despite towering over others at the Bolivar Beach Bar.

It happened at 5:30 a.m., with clubs open all night, after their team lost 80-69 in a game which saw Greece and its NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo returning to the Olympics for the first time since 2008, said MSN.

The news site said that TMZ Sports reported the incident and posted a video that showed the fracas and that no police were on the scene when it happened, the fight broken up by the club security.

The bar is one of many along the so-called Athens Riviera taking over public beaches, the area known for night clubbing all night and raucous crowds, this time erupting into a fight with no reason given.

Saric is 6-10 and plays for the Golden State Warriors while the 7-foot Zubac plays for the Los Angeles Clippers but their height didn’t daunt other clubbers from mixing it up with them, seeing Saric put in a chokehold at one point.

Saric was taken to the ground and stayed there for several moments, the video showing a man yelling at Zubac and telling him to calm down before he backed off with his hands up after the tangle with several others.

Saric got up and stumbled toward Zubac and a group of men pushed them toward the exit in an apparent bid to de-escalate the confrontation. It wasn’t said the police were called or if the duo would face penalties from their national team or the NBA.
