COVID-19 Test Results of 300 Holidaymakers Returning to Athens Show No Infections

ATHENS — Over 300 coronavirus test samples taken of passengers arriving at Piraeus and Rafina ports on Sunday were found negative to the virus, according to authorities on Monday.

The tests were carried out by the Region of Attica and the Athens Medical Association with the help of port authorities, the region's public health directorate and scores of volunteers. Samples were taken from the nasopharyngeal cavity and analysed with the PCR method.

As the bulk of holidaymakers are expected to be returning from the islands to the end of August, the region and the association will as of Tuesday be taking passengers samples daily on a volunteer basis of passengers disembarking from ferries at Gate E1 in Piraeus.
