LONDON — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is appealing to global leaders to harness the resources of the world’s wealthiest nations to end the COVID-19 pandemic and tackle climate change.

Johnson made the comments in a video statement released ahead of a virtual summit of G-20 leaders hosted by Saudi Arabia, which holds the group’s rotating presidency this year.

Johnson says: “If we harness the collective ingenuity and resources of the G20, we can chart a path out of the pandemic and build a better, greener future.”

Johnson plans to attend two virtual events at the summit while self-isolating at home in London after coming in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

The U.K. next year will hold the presidency of the G-7, which groups together the world’s seven leading industrial nations and the European Union. It will also host the UN’s next climate summit scheduled for November 2021 in Glasgow
