Consulate General of Greece in Chicago to Present Greek Film Expo

CHICAGO – The windy city will be a little more Greek than usual the weekend of October 18-20, when the Chicago Greek Film Expo comes to town. The festival is being presented by the Consulate General of Greece in Chicago in association with the Hellenic Film Society USA and the Pickwick Theatre, 5 South Prospect Avenue in Park Ridge, IL, where the screenings will be held.

“This festival not only highlights the vibrant world of Greek cinema but also serves as a bridge connecting the rich cultural heritage of Greece with the diverse community of Chicago,” said Emmanuel Koubarakis, Consul General of Greece in Chicago.

The festival will offer free screenings of six award-winning Greek films with English subtitles.

‘Black Stone,’ a drama about a mother searching for her missing adult son, will open the festival on Friday, October 18, 7:30 PM.

‘Dignity,’ an intense drama about a family celebration that turns nasty, will screen on Saturday, October 19, 4:30 PM. At 7 PM, the Expo will present ‘Eftyhia,’ the life story of Eftyhia Papagiannopoulou, the beloved lyricist of Greece.

Three films will be shown on Sunday, October 20, 2 PM, ‘The Promotion,’ a story of a father and his adult son attempting to sharpen their connection. At 4:30 PM, ‘Little Things That Went Wrong,’ the story of two fathers at opposite ends of the social scale, each struggling with problems of his own. And at 7 PM, ‘Fonissa’ (‘The Murderess’), an adaptation of the classic novel about a midwife who finds a violent solution to confront the evils of a male-oriented society circa 1900.

“Each film presented here is a testament to the creativity and passion of Greek filmmakers, who continue to push boundaries and engage viewers in thought-provoking ways,” said Koubarakis.

Admission to all screenings is free of charge, but tickets are required for admission. The Pickwick Theatre is located at 5 South Prospect Avenue, in Park Ridge.
