Conference and Summit of Global Archons Closes with Dinner at Zappeion in Athens

ATHENS – After hosting the The 4th International Conference on Religious Freedom May 26-28, and the 1st Summit of Global Archons on May 29, the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of America, Canada, Australia, and Europe gathered members, friends, and special guests for a farewell dinner at the iconic Zappeion Megaron in Athens Centre.

The Hon. B. Theodore Bozonelis served as the Master of Ceremonies for the dinner on May 29. The Invocation was offered by Metropolitan Emmanuel Geron of Chalcedon, who represented Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, while the closing Benediction was offered by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America.

Athanasios Martinos, Conference Co-Chair, welcomed the guests and greetings were offered by Boris Gurov Archon Orphanotrophos of Sofia, Bulgaria. The Toast was presented by Peter J. Skeadas, Archon Hieromnimon, National Treasurer of the Order of St. Andrew.

After remarks by Dr. Limberakis, the featured address was presented by Evangelos Venizelos, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Greece and Professor of Constitutional Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Metropolitan Emmanuel Geron of Chalcedon responding.

Venizelos stressed the importance of the mission of the Archons in support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as well as the ideals reflected in the conference’s theme, ‘Protecting Religious Freedom, Democracy and Human Rights’. Veneizelos elaborated on those issues and also paid tribute to the day, May 29, the dark anniversary of the Fall of Constantinople.

In a surprise move the Archons presented gifts to Fr. Alexander Karloutsos, and Presbytera Xanthi Karloutsos in appreciation for their devotion to the Church and the Greek-American community, as well as to the Archons and their mission.
