John M. Frangos, Chios-Native and Longtime Ahepan, 91

GARDEN CITY, NY – John M. Frangos passed away of natural causes on November 29, at the age of 91. A longtime resident of Garden City, NY, Captain John was born in Kardamyla, Chios in Greece on January 15, 1929. He was a member of the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1958-1985.

He is survived by his two daughters, his wife Despina having predeceased him in 2011. He was the devoted father of Irene and husband Dimitrios Drivas and Tina and husband Robert DiMino, a proud and loving Grandfather of Theo (Cristina) and Ianni (Stephanie) Drivas, John, Gloria (Chris Brownell) and Dessie DiMino and an adoring great-grandfather to Baby Rena.

Frangos was a long-standing member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). Only his family will be in attendance at his funeral at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hempstead, but the service will be available for viewing live on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/Stpaul4548 and on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/SaintPaulHempstead/ on Wednesday, December 2 at 9:30 AM. Interment to follow at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington, NY.
