ATHENS -- Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister for Diaspora Greeks Konstantinos Vlassis discussed the disruptive effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the 'NOSTOS' program of hosting diaspora Greeks with Egyptian Minister of Immigration and Expatriate Affairs Nabila Makram and the Cypriot Commissioner for Overseas Cypriots Fotis Fotiou, at an e-meeting held Friday.

In the framework of 'Nostos', after the ancient Greek word for one's return home, the Egyptian government will host a group of Egyptian Greeks from Greece and Cyprus in Alexandria, Cairo, El Alamein, Saint Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai, and Sharm el Sheikh. The program includes visits to sites of special importance for the historical presence of Greeks in present-day Egypt.

Apart from committing to the continuation and enrichment of 'Nostos', the three countries also agreed to hold a video conference on July 18 with the participation of doctors from the Greek, Cypriot and Egyptian Diaspora, to look into the latest developments in the treatment of Covid-19. The strengthening of tourism between the three countries was also discussed.
