WHITESTONE, NY – Crowds gathered at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Whitestone for the Resurrection services and proclaim “Christ is risen.”

Presiding priest of the community Fr. George Anastasiou wished everyone all the best for Holy Pascha and especially wished everyone health, not only physical, but spiritual as well. He noted that the word “Pascha” is from the Hebrew word meaning “Passover” and he hoped everyone would “passover” whatever difficulties they are facing in life.

Fr. Anastasiou read the Encyclical of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros in Greek and in English inside the church before everyone went outside to proclaim Christos Anesti.

Many of the faithful wore masks, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, since the CDC continues to recommend the wearing of masks outside when in a large crowd.

Following the outdoor portion of the service, Fr. Anastasiou invited all back into the church for the Divine Liturgy after which the traditional red eggs were given to all who attended.
