Community Journalists Experience Treacherous Holiday Driving

NEW YORK – Thoughtful people know that every day is Thanksgiving, but a number of New Yorkers are especially thankful to God this Christmas season. Well known Greek-American photographer Dimitrios Panagos, driving a 2012 Toyota Prius on Old Country Road in Nassau County accompanied by his wife, journalist Rebeka Panagos, were among the travelers near Hicksville, NY who escaped the fate of the drivers of two other cars who were killed.

Panagos and his wife were hit by a car that had already crashed into another vehicle.

Fortunately, the couple was not injured – thanks to God and modern automotive safety technology – although the car was damaged.

“It was the first time I had come face to face with Charon,” – the ferryman of Hades in Greek mythology – “and saw cars instantly transformed into masses of twisted metal and a driver thrown from his vehicle.”

He told TNH that when he looked, the driver was missing from the car that hit him.
The police department is investigating the accident which occurred on December 22 just after 11:30 PM.

According to CBS News, “Two drivers are dead and two passengers injured following a multiple-vehicle crash on Long Island…A 26-year-old driver in a Volkswagen was exiting a parking lot when he collided with a 17-year-old driver in an Acura headed westbound on Old Country Road in Hicksville, Nassau County homicide detectives said.”

“The driver of the Volkswagen was ejected from the car and was possibly hit by a fourth vehicle, police said. He was pronounced dead. The Acura driver struck a tree and was killed.
Two male passengers in the Volkswagen — ages 24 and 26 — were hospitalized,” CBS reported.
