Cold Air Over Greece, Italy to Bring More Unseasonally Low Temperatures

September 9, 2021

ATHENS — A "lake" of cold air in the middle troposphere above Greece and Italy will continue to bring unseasonally low temperatures for the time of year on Thursday and Friday, the Athens National Observatory weather service meteo said on Thursday.

In addition to low temperatures, there will be rain and storms in many areas, which will occasionally be intense. From Thursday night, heavy rain and storms will affect Halkidiki and the islands of the north and northeastern Aegean, moving southwest toward the Sporades islands and reaching parts of the mainland, Evia and the north Cyclades islands on Friday morning.

ATHENS - It doesn't look like the summer of 2021, when hundreds of wildfires blazed across Greece and caught the New Democracy government's response unaware at points, but 56 broke out on July 2, with worry more are coming.
