NEW YORK – For the opening of Climate Week 2024, the Global Portal Institute (GPI) announced a first-of-its kind transnational and trans-scalar conversation with environmental leaders from climate and innovation hubs across continents, to accelerate efforts in climate conservation, with representatives from regions that have faced recent disastrous effects of climate change: Brazil, the U.S., and Greece, reconsidering the origin of the Ancient Greek word ‘Oikonomia,’ reminding that Ecology and Economy are one and the same.
The online event takes place Wednesday, September 25, 12 noon-1 PM.
GPI, an international non-profit research organization originating from the Amazon Basin two decades ago, focused on climate innovation, conservation, and cultural development fostering uncharted Silk Corridor models and networks spanning Latin America through Southeast Asia passing by Africa, is highlighting essential and often vital knowledges to enable new types of exchanges on the global arena.
Following the implementation of environmental education programs across continents, GPI invites all to the next event in a cross-disciplinary discussion, after Manaus Earth Day and Davos World Biodiversity Forum 2024. This encounter taking place before COP29 and COP30 from the eastern Amazon, will showcase the latest developmental advantages, informal agreements, interim rules and regulations, alongside concrete methodologies and scalable systems advancing from the field: native footprint modeling to assess the source of the ecosystems frameworks, pollination mapping, biodiversity credits, and more. For Climate Week NYC, beyond the growing wildfire threats, uncontrollable floods, and devastating climate outcomes across the planet, join this international encounter to reframe a more feasible future from today.
The meeting on the theme of bridging ecology and economy will bring together representatives from four continents: Nicolas Picat Saridaki, Researcher and Professor, President of Global Portal Institute, France and Greece; Karol Meyer, Financial Executive, 8-Time World Champion in Freediving and Oxygen Specialist, Brazil; Melissa Pegus, Managing Director, JPMorgan TechStars Atlanta and New Orleans, USA; and Lucy Xu, Founder and CEO, The Port Global, Greece and USA.
The live event, open to the public and media, will bridge perspectives on the considerable and non-negotiable need of conservation of our limited resources is vital to ensure our survival as a species, revisiting existing millenary solutions, one major pillar being the application of native pollination, alongside modern-day climate innovation developments.
“Ecology and Economy are one and the same,” Nicolas Picat Saridaki, President of the Global Portal Institute said.
Weather hazards are now killing peoples at a higher rate that any wars and redesigning the world priorities, both economic, ecological, political and geostrategic. The past decade saw over a quarter billion displacements caused by disasters, according to the UNHCR. World allocation of resources and land monitoring services are on a cusp on a new era, and becoming the main parameter for decision makers. Solutions have existed since millennia. Perspectives learned from the session will feed back into the Institute’s policy recommendations and community efforts to better prepare, respond, and adapt the environmental shifts of the transnational, trans-generational, and trans-scalar climate change impact made reality.
The event, part of the Climate Week NYC 2024 official program, will be broadcast to NYC from Athens, Greece. For more information and to register to participate: https://shorturl.at/mNC82.
