City of Athens Democracy Award to Former President of Brazill Fernando Henrique Cardoso

ATHENS — Athens mayor Kostas Bakoyannis, at a special event in the context of 8th Athens Democracy Forum at 18:40, is to award via the internet the "Democracy Award of the City of Athens" to former President of Brazil Fernando Henrique Cardoso "as a tangible recognition of his inspired leadership for two consecutive terms in the period 1995-2003 and his important contribution to the establishment of democracy in Brazil".

This year's Athens Democracy Forum, which is hosted this year by the city of Athens via the internet, is organised by the Democracy and Culture Foundation in collaboration with The New York Times and is held under the auspices of President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, in cooperation with the UN Fund for Democracy, the Kofi Annan Foundation, the municipality of Athens and Kathimerini newspaper.
