CHRISTMAS CAROL COUNTDOWN: Midnight Clear #6 – Pat Boone

From now until Christmas Day we will feature the countdown of 10 of the most popular versions of the beloved Christmas carol, “It Came upon the Midnight Clear.” To compare apples to apples, we chose 10 soloists, all male. Our staff members ranked the videos, and here are the results – from 10 to 1. Some comments from the judges are included (including my own two cents). How did we do? Please let us know – and, most of all, enjoy!

All 10 artists featured here do a wonderful enough job on “Midnight Clear,” of course, but I thought Pat Boone’s was the least remarkable of all. He was my last-place pick, and I wasn’t alone.  But enough of our colleagues gave him really high ratings, which resulted in Pat finishing in the middle of the pack, at number 6.

A pleasant enough rendition, no doubt – but I think he was ranked too high.

What do you think?  You be the judge.
