Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
From now until Christmas Day we will feature the countdown of 10 of the most popular versions of the beloved Christmas carol, “It Came upon the Midnight Clear.” To compare apples to apples, we chose 10 soloists, all male. Our staff members ranked the videos, and here are the results – from 10 to 1. Some comments from the judges are included (including my own two cents). How did we do? Mario Lanza probably has the greatest vocal instrument of the bunch, which is why he finished 4th overall and 2nd on my list. Notably, this is not Mario at his best, and so to finish near the top but not first overall seems fair.
It’s hard to beat this rendition for pure vocal prowess. Then again, that’s not what some judges want to hear as chestnuts roast on the open fire.
