Chrisochoidis Meets UNHCR Representative in Greece Mireille Girard

ATHENS — Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis on Wednesday discussed the management of migrant flows and the protection of the EU's external borders, with protection of human life and human rights as the primary goal, with the UNHCR Representative in Greece Mireille Girard, during their meeting at the citizen protection ministry.

Chrisochoidis pointed out the substantial decline in migrant flows in the last few months and clarified that this was mainly due to a more effective supervision and protection of the EU's external borders by Greece, as well as the daily efforts to protect migrants and improve their living conditions.

On her part, Girard noted her good first impressions during recent visits to the relevant Hellenic Police services in the area of Evros and referred to the close cooperation with Greek authorities and the improvement of migrant reception centres, as well as the initiatives to train and inform Hellenic Police personnel on migration issues.
