Brooklyn AHEPA Chapter 41 Sponsors Tenth Annual Greek Community Golf Outing

BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn AHEPA Chapter 41’s Tenth Annual Golf Outing provided another successful day of friendly competition in support of the Greek communities of Brooklyn. After postponing the event last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chapter redoubled its efforts this year. Chapter President John Liodakis, Golf Committee Chairman Ted Pavlounis, Co-Chairman and Chapter Secretary Spyros Loukakos and a host of Chapter 41 Brothers welcomed 130 golfers, making this their largest Golf Outing ever. This year’s outing was held on June 18 at the Dyker Beach Golf Course in Brooklyn.

Golfers enjoyed a continental breakfast to start the day, donated by Mr. Chips and Zimi Bagel Cafe. Each golfer received a gift bag with golf tees, balls, cigars, and other items donated by various sponsors. Brooklyn Maids of Athena helped register the golfers, sell raffles, and distribute the gift bags.

Fr. Eugene Pappas of Three Hierarchs Church, Fr. Evagoras Constantinides of Sts. Constantine & Helen Cathedral, and Fr. Gerasimos Makris of Holy Cross Church blessed the golfers before they took over the entire course for a 1 PM shotgun start. New York State Senator Andrew Gounardes and New York State Assemblyman Michael Tannousis, who are also Brooklyn AHEPA 41 Brothers, attended and welcomed all.

A sandwich lunch was served to the golfers halfway through the course. Refreshments were provided throughout the day. Fr. Damaskinos Ganas of Kimisis Theotokou Church blessed a barbecue buffet dinner. The golfers ended the day with awards for various categories such as best score and longest drive. Raffle prizes included three pairs of international round-trip tickets donated by United Airlines, fur accessories, foursome passes to exclusive country clubs, local sports tickets, and assorted golf equipment.

The annual event continues to grow each year. To date it has raised over $250,000 for the Brooklyn Greek communities of Sts. Constantine & Helen Cathedral, Holy Cross, Kimisis Theotokou, and Three Hierarchs. It also funds Brooklyn AHEPA 41 annual scholarships for the A. Fantis Parochial School, Hellenic Classical Charter School, the afternoon Greek School of Holy Cross, and the Greek School of Plato.

Next year’s outing is scheduled for Friday, June 17, 2022. All AHEPA brothers and friends are encouraged to attend. No golf expertise is necessary to enjoy the event.
