BROOKLYN, NY – As it has done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Brooklyn AHEPA Chapter 41 held its monthly meeting on November 4 virtually via Zoom. Among the various items on the agenda was a discussion of the recent Kimisis tis Theotokou annual Cigar Night which was held on October 23 in the parish’s outdoor property; a review of the AHEPA Charitable Foundation efforts for the recent earthquake in Greece and the fires in California, and the chapter’s support, as well as the chapter’s observance of the one-year memorial service for their Brother and former Chapter President, John Samakovlis which will take place on a Sunday in mid-December at the Cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helen, where the chapter is based and where Samakovlis served on its Board of Trustees.
The chapter has used its virtual meetings since the very beginning of the New York quarantine to keep its members in touch and to share relevant information on all issues related to the pandemic. They also hosted expert guest speakers to address questions about economic, legal, local government, health and safety issues. Regrettably, the chapter had to postpone its annual Golf Outing, the proceeds of which have gone to support Youth Programs in all the Brooklyn Parishes as well as its Spring Independence Party usually held on the Friday before the Greek Independence Day Parade.
Chapter 41 is the home chapter of Past District 6 Governor Peter Vasilakos. The chapter was honored to have three District Officers in attendance at their most recent meeting. District 6 Governor Lou Katsos, as well as Lt. Governor Dean Moskos and Secretary Chris Pappis, joined in to express their support of the chapter and to advise on all the upcoming dynamic events planned in the district.
The chapters 2020-2021 officers are President John Liodakis, Vice President Stavros (Steve) Doukas, Secretary Spyros Loukakos, and Treasurer Peter Kontopirakis.
