RHODES – A British tourist has gone missing on the Greek island of Rhodes, prompting an extensive search operation by police and the coastguard.
The missing man, reported to be 48 years old, was vacationing on the island with relatives. According to local media, he disappeared on Wednesday after swimming with his niece at Theologos beach. His niece, whose age has not been disclosed, returned to their hotel but later realized her uncle had not returned. She then went back to the beach to search for him and alerted the authorities.
In response, the Greek coastguard and police launched a coordinated search effort, notifying boats in the area to assist.
This incident follows a series of similar cases where tourists have gone missing while on holiday in Greece. In June, television doctor Michael Mosley tragically died on the island of Symi after walking during a heatwave, sparking a days-long search. In July, four foreign tourists vanished in Greece, including a 23-year-old Slovak man who went missing near Ioannina and two French tourists, aged 73 and 64, who disappeared on the remote island of Sikinos.
