Black Friday Sales to Reach 120 Million Euros, SELPE Surrvey Says

November 21, 2022

ATHENS – This year’s Black Friday market value will reach 120 million euros, with one in 5 consumers participating with an average spending of 146 euros, the Association of Business and Retail Sales of Greece SELPE said in a consumer survey released on Monday.

The survey, conducted with ELTRUN in the period November 14-16 on a sample of 1,157 consumers, showed that 20% of consumers will purchase goods during the Black Friday. The percentage is higher in the 25-35 age group, reaching 32% and lower in the above-45 age group (18%). A significant share of these purchases will also cover the Christmas shopping. A 20% of those who will participate in the Black Friday period, a 7% will cover their Christmas shopping. A 53% of respondents said the Black Friday period was just another discount period, while a 22% disagreed. A 13% said it was necessary to have this discount period, while a 44% said it was not necessary. A 6% said the Black Friday discounts were better than other discount periods, while a 61% disagreed saying there were not practical differences.

ATHENS - Expecting another record year in tourism to surpass the numbers in 2023 in arrivals and revenues, Greece’s infrastructure - particularly on overwhelmed islands - isn’t adequate to deal with the demands even as more resorts keep opening.
