Bem Bulutoglu Aims to Make Gyros and Tzatziki San Francisco Treats

SAN FRANCISCO – Don’t let the name fool you because Bem Bulutoglu knows his gyros and how to serve them up fast, as he’s been doing in San Francisco at his Gyro Express restaurant and soon – he hopes – at an offshoot, Gyros and Tzatziki.

It will be in the Mission District, said Hoodline while his other gyro spot is in the Castro area. The new version is due to open in early December, said the San Francisco Business Times.

Greek food fans should “expect a similar menu and style to Gyro Xpress, with kebabs, wraps, burgers and the namesake gyros with tangy tzatziki yogurt sauce,” also said the report.

Bulutoglu is not using the name ‘Gyro Xpress,’ because his partner in that venture is not involved in this venture and the site said it got the information from “a recent liquor license application and business registration from Bulutoglu.”

Those applications have merely been submitted, and are not yet granted, the site also said. He made some waves in 2019 when, said Hoodline, he used a Planning Department discretionary review process to attempt to block a rival falafel shop that was nearby.
