Bakery, Co-Founded by Greek-American Markos Panas, Offers “Quarantine Cakes”

ALEXANDRIA, VA  – Bread & Water Company, co-founded by Markos Panas and Noelie Rickey, opened in 2011 in Alexandria, and is now offering online ordering and delivery for the first time, PerishableNews.com reported.

With its roots as a successful farm stand in the Old Town Farmers Market, the bakery now has two locations in Virginia, serving “Real, Legit Food,” according to the Bread & Water Company website.

The bakery’s newly redesigned website makes ordering easy for customers who can scroll through the menus and choose to pick up orders at either the “HQ” location, 1512 Belle View Boulevard in Alexandria, or at Bread & Water Company’s second location, “The Cube,” 1202 S Joyce Street in Arlington.

Among the delicious items for pick-up or delivery orders are “Quarantine Cakes” featuring helpful messages during the coronavirus lockdown, such as “Wash your hands,” Perishable News reported, adding that “the bakery also released a limited supply of house-made hand sanitizer.”

Co-founder Rickey told Perishable News that “we want to honor those on the front lines. When hand sanitizer disappeared off the shelves of stores, it occurred to me that we had supplies on hand to make our own, we keep a six month supply of gloves and other sanitary products anyway, because our first job has always been to keep our staff and our customers safe.”

“Rickey has a background as a former triage nurse, and her training guides the safety protocols of the company’s retail locations,” Perishable News reported, adding that “to preserve jobs, the bakery has reassigned their own wholesale drivers to local deliveries for the first time.”

Greek-American co-founder Markos Panas told Perishable News about how customers appreciate the delivery service, “Our people are craving something normal right now. It’s been amazing to see their reactions to a simple food delivery.”

An essential business, Bread & Water Company delivers to zip codes 22314, 22303, 22307, and 22308, Perishable News reported, noting that “for first responders, military, and healthcare workers, they also have a pick-up window at their Belleview HQ location with social distancing protocols in place to ensure staff and customer safety.”
