LOS ANGELES – The award-winning film ‘Medium’ makes its U.S. Premiere on Monday, February 12, at the 39th Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF). The director, co-producer, and writer Christina Ioakeimidi will be attending SBIFF and will be available for a Q&A following the two official screenings. ‘Medium’ is an Ekso Production and made its World Premiere at the 2023 Sarajevo Film Festival where it earned the Cineuropa Award.
As noted in the plot summary for the film, 16-year-old Eleftheria, a stranger in a strange world, meets mysterious neighbor Angelos who invites her into his fascinating grown up world. Roaming the streets of the scorching hot August city on his bike, she will embark on a journey to discover herself through the ferocity of first love.
“A simple but extraordinarily moving film about the challenges of growing into your identity at a crucial point in your life, ‘Medium’ is a curious drama that ventures deep into the heart of this young woman and her existential journey,” said the International Cinephile Society.
Born in Athens, Greece, Christina Ioakeimidi studied filmmaking at the London Film School, where she honed her skills in writing, directing and photography through the creation of short films. Ioakeimidi’s directorial debut ‘Harisma’, which she wrote, directed, and produced, premiered in Greece in 2010 and gained global recognition having been featured in numerous international film festivals. In addition to her work in feature films, Ioakeimidi has directed documentaries for Greek television networks.
The screenings of the ‘Medium’ take place Monday, February 12, 1 PM, at the Fiesta 5, AUD 2, and Thursday, February 15, 8 PM, at Metro 4, AUD 1.
