Assembly Republicans Announce Legislation to Help NYers Combat Rising Prices

NEW YORK – Assemblyman Michael Tannousis (R,C- Staten Island/Brooklyn) and his Assembly Republican colleagues on October 28 announced they would be introducing legislation to suspend sales tax on a variety of goods and services in an effort to provide New Yorkers some relief from soaring prices. Called the “Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan,” the legislation would lower prices on everyday goods by eliminating sales tax for two years.

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows a steep increase in the prices Americans are paying for everyday goods and services over the past year. The Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan will assist all New Yorkers struggling with ever-growing inflation by immediately suspending state sales tax charges on things like gasoline, personal care products, housekeeping supplies, and food.

“It’s no secret that the prices we pay for everyday items and necessities have skyrocketed in recent months. New Yorkers everywhere are faced with the highest gas, energy, and food prices we have seen in almost a decade,” said Tannousis. “I was proud to co-sponsor the ‘Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan.’ This is the kind of legislation that provides real, meaningful help to our communities.”
