Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
NICOSIA – The Coronavirus may still linger, but the pandemic has significantly subsided, leading to the lifting of health restrictions and a surge in international air travel. Cyprus, in particular, has experienced remarkable benefits from this trend.
Foreign visitor arrivals in April witnessed a remarkable increase of 18.5% compared to the same month the previous year, when travel limitations and health measures were still in place. The Cyprus Statistical Service (CYSTAT) reported that April welcomed 342,736 arrivals, a significant jump from the 289,335 recorded in April 2022, as stated by The Cyprus Mail.
In the first four months of 2023, a staggering total of 736,629 tourists arrived in Cyprus, marking a remarkable growth of 37.9% in comparison to the same period in 2022, when air travel was gradually resuming, and arrivals reached 534,040.
Among the leading nations in terms of visitor numbers for April, the United Kingdom took the lead, contributing 124,455 visitors, accounting for 36.3% of the total. Following closely behind were 34,069 visitors from Israel, comprising 9.9% of the total.
Additional arrivals were observed from Poland, Germany, and Greece. The findings revealed that 79.3% of visitors arrived for vacation purposes, 14.5% to visit friends or relatives, and 6% for business-related reasons.
