BOSTON – Boston is a hotbed of the Greek-American community and their restaurants, so you have to stand out and Demetri Tsolakis and Stefanos Ougrinis, owners of Xenia Greek Hospitality, think they’ve got the right formula.
“In the realm of Greek food and the Greek restaurant scene, there’s so much that we can offer,” Tsolakis told the Boston Business Journal of the concept that’s expanding their eateries.
“It can be regional, island-inspired coastal, Vlach, vegetarian. There’s so many different concepts that you can do from Greece that people don’t know about. I feel like everybody kind of does the whole fresh fish and octopus and all of a sudden you’re Greek.”
He said keeping Greek culture the focus of what the business does is as important as the food. “I wanted to showcase food, culture, hospitality, the language, everything about Greece. You know, there’s a lot of things that people don’t know about Greece,” Tsolakis said. Or, he said they have misunderstandings.
He grew up in Springfield while Ougrinis moved to Boston during Greece’s financial crisis and they connected through his cousin, Natasha Papadopoulos, who’s a friend of Tsolakis.
