NEW YORK – Greece is a top summer destination and airlines and travel companies are scrambling to keep up with the demand as people begin planning their vacations. Two German airlines, Lufthansa and Condor, are adding flights to Greece, Simple Flying reported on December 1. The British travel company Jet2Holidays announced on December 2 its expanded flights and destinations in Greece for summer 2020.

Beginning on May 1, 2020, Condor will offer its customers direct flights to Santorini, Mykonos, and Samos. Condor CEO Ralf Teckentrup said in statement from the airline, “With the new destinations…we are expanding our route network and offering our guests even more choices for their summer holiday,” Simple Flying reported.

“The airline will fly once a week to Mykonos from Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich airports and will fly twice a week from the same airports to the island of Santorini. It also currently operates between Stuttgart and Samos but it hopes to expand the connection to Samos between Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, and Munich as well,” Simple Flying reported.

Lufthansa’s Greek flights will take off from Frankfurt and Munich, Simple Flying reported, adding that “the airline has plans to add Rhodes and Zakynthos to its network, starting on April 4, 2020. Initially, it will fly both services once a week but as demand increases, so will the services.”

Simple Flying reported that “Lufthansa will fly between Munich and Zakynthos every Saturday on one of its Airbus A321 on the following schedule:

  • Departing Munich on Saturdays at 2:45 PM, arriving in Zakynthos at 6 PM.
  • Departing Zakynthos on Saturdays at 7 PM, arriving in Munich at 8:25 PM.
“From June 3, Lufthansa will use an A320 to deliver an additional weekly service on Wednesdays.

“In addition, Lufthansa will fly Frankfurt to Rhodes via A320 each Saturday in the summer season.

  • Departing Frankfurt at 1 PM, arriving in Rhodes at 5:10 PM.
  • Departing Rhodes at 6:10 PM, arriving in Frankfurt at 8:30 PM.
Between June 6-September 15, the airline will also offer a Tuesday service.”

Lufthansa released a statement noting that “in summer 2020, Lufthansa will thus be offering all sun-hungry passengers up to 14 weekly connections to five Greek islands in addition to flights to Athens and Thessaloniki. More than ever before.”

The British travel company Jet2Holidays has added the Cycladic island of Mykonos to its list of destinations and will operate from Manchester and London Stansted Airports, Travel News reported.

Up to two weekly services to Mykonos from Manchester Airport, with a Sunday service operating from May 24-November 1, and a Thursday service operating from July 16-September 24 will be available from the travel company which will also operate up to two weekly services from London Stansted Airport, with a weekly Sunday service running from May 24-November 1, as well as a weekly Tuesday service operating from May 26-September 22, Travel News reported.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, told Travel News that “the introduction of flights and holidays to Mykonos from Manchester and London Stansted Airports is yet more fantastic news for both holiday-makers and independent travel agents. Mykonos is a breath-taking destination with beaches, natural beauty, and nightlife aplenty, and we have no doubt that our award-winning flights and holidays will be hugely popular with holiday-makers looking for a stunning escape.
