WELLESLEY, MA – Democrat Chris Zannetos, running for Congress to represent the 4th district of Massachusetts, together with STEMatchMA, a nonprofit that brings companies and schools together to make Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) opportunities more accessible to urban students, veterans, and displaced workers, on August 10 announced a Career Day for Fall River public school students that will take place at cybersecurity company SecZetta in Fall River, MA.

“For too long, our economy has delivered the best opportunities only to the top 20% because residents of communities like Fall River have been unable to get equal access to STEM-based education that can lead to successful careers and financial security,” said Zannetos. “As the only candidate who has created growth jobs and has worked with public schools and community colleges to create new paths to good jobs, I know we can solve this with win/win partnerships between schools and businesses, and we are grateful to SecZetta for stepping up as a leader in Fall River.”

“At SecZetta, we are passionate about bringing STEM-based awareness and education opportunities to our communities and are proud to support STEMatchMA,” said Dave Pignolet, CEO of SecZetta. “When we decided to move our headquarters to Fall River earlier this year, we made a commitment to the community and when the schools are ready once again for field trips, we look forward to meeting some bright, ambitious students to introduce them to the possibilities a career path in STEM can bring.”

According to the Zannetos campaign, “in the next decade, nearly all of the fastest growing occupations in Massachusetts will require a solid background in STEM, but our educational system doesn’t deliver enough STEM-educated students. Worse, huge segments of our population - students from lower-income communities, veterans, displaced workers - don’t have access to STEM subjects at a very early age, and often never see the life-changing career opportunities made possible by STEM.”

STEMatchMA brings together public schools, community colleges, and high technology companies, organizing and supporting programs inside and outside of the classroom to inspire interest in STEM subjects and help make a brighter future more accessible to all in the Commonwealth.
