ATHENS -- Οn the ocassion of the 30 years since the establishment of the Democratic Union of the National Greek Minority in Albania "Omonia", President of Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou noted that the the Greek state will support the efforts made in the benefit of its members, of Albania and of the Greek-Albanian relations. In parallel, she underlined that in the three last decades, Omonia had done rich work and important struggles and Albania has posted a significant progress on the course for its modernization, and today it is a candidate to access the European Union.
However, she pointed out that many more steps must be taken in order for the country's European course to pass to the next stage. For this , the protection of the Greek Minority's rights, the free self-determination, the free use of the Greek language and the Greek education as well as the guarantee of the wealth rights are prerequisites according to the European decisions. She also added that "the Greek state will always be there as always to monitor if these conditions are observed and to point out any deficiencies and lagging."
