THESSALONIKI - The country wishes for and has a need for a great turnaround for most people, Prime Minister and SYRIZA party leader Alexis Tsipras said on Thursday, referring to overturning the losses of the European elections at a speech in Thessaloniki, ahead of Sunday's general elections.

"From my tours around the country, the message I bring you is the following: An overturn is not simply a wish and a need of the country and the great majority, it has already begun," the premier said.

Greeks "have not yet uttered their final words," he reiterated, and said the party's electoral win is exactly what is wanted by the country's young, the pensioners, the small and middle-sized business owners, the intellectuals, and the non-privileged citizens. Greece, he said, is haunted by those who "led the country to its economic, political and ethical bankruptcy," and named them as "the barons of information, the lords of corruption," who do not forgive his party for succeeding where they failed and taking the country out of the loan memoranda.

"We did that taking care of the weak, the workers, the SMEs, young people, pensioners - they don't forgive us for taking care of those who had precarious financial lives." He noted that Syriza did this "without having been born in wealthy families."
