ATHENS - "In terms of the migration issue, New Democracy (ND) has not yet started to govern. In the last seven months it is going from bad to worse," SYRIZA spokesperson Alexis Charitsis said on Monday in an interview with MEGA TV adding that ND's obsessions in the migration issue have led to a total chaos.

He underlined that the abolition of the migration policy ministry showed that the government is downgrading the issue and ought to have proceeded with the islands' decongestion as of July and August. This resulted into "an unprecedented tension on the islands with the increase of the migrants flows and the fourfold increase in Moria hotspot population and with UN urging, for the first time, for the shutting down of the structure ahead of the risk of a pandemic," he said.

"We have never hidden from the public that the refugee issue is a complex issue and that Europe needs to help to deal with it. We have made a huge effort to transfer 30,000 people from the islands, making the situation manageable," he added.
