ATHENS -- The volunteer doctors and nurses of the Mobile Medical Units are lending their time and skills to Greece’s national COVID-19 vaccination campaign, joining Mobile Medical Units (MMU) missions to Greek islands in the coming months.

Their first stops are on Kos and Samos, and a mission to Chios will follow. The MMUs are an initiative of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), carried out by the nonprofit Regeneration & Progress with exclusive support from SNF.

During a teleconference today with members of the local authorities on the islands, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis acknowledged Regeneration & Progress and SNF for the significant contribution the MMUs will make to the push to achieve universal vaccination among island residents.

Since the launch of the Mobile Medical Units program in January 2014, the MMUs have completed 89 missions to remote islands and regions across Greece. The aim of the program is to ensure access to high-quality health services for everyone in the country, regardless of where they live.
