NEW YORK — A 91-year-old man was found tied up and apparently beaten to death inside the garage of his Bronx home, police said.
Officers responding to a 911 call about a robbery at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday found Nicholas Rappa bound by the hands and unconscious in a garage behind his home in the Pelham Gardens neighborhood, police said.
Rappa had been bashed in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A neighbor, Robert D'Alessandro, told the Daily News that a tenant found Rappa in the garage. "His tenant came out and saw the garage open," said D'Alessandro, 64. "He started calling 'Nick! Nick!' And he saw him in the rear, tied up and dead."
D'Alessandro said Nappa was a retired construction worker who took care of his 96-year-old wife.
The medical examiner's office will determine Rappa's cause of death. Police have made no arrests.
