NEW YORK — An 80-year-old woman was killed early Friday in a Manhattan apartment fire, police said.
The woman was found burned and unconscious in a cluttered East Village apartment, police said.
Firefighters responded around 12:45 a.m. and had the fire under control around 1:20 a.m.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name has not been made public.
Authorities are looking into whether faulty air conditioner wiring sparked the blaze.
The city's fire marshal will determine the cause, police said.
