A growing economic crisis caused by the US doubling tariffs on Turkish steel hasn't kept President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from backing off provocations against Greece, with fishermen in the Dodecanese chain say they are being trailed by Turkish Coast Guard vessels.

In video footage obtained by Kathimerini, Turkish patrol boats are seen moving aggressively toward the Greek boats off the coast of Leros, Arkoi, Agathonisi and other Greek islets after Turkish fishermen earlier off Leros fired into the air to warn off the Greek fishing vessels. There was no word on whether the Greek Coast Guard was dispatched to protect the Greek boats in Greek sovereign waters.

Turkey doesn't recognize the laws of the sea and claims large swathes of the Aegean and has sent warships past Greek islands, and the two countries nearly came into a clash in February off the disputed rocky islets of Imia when Turkish boats twice rammed Greek vessels.
