Greece: Two Americans Arrested After Antiquities Found in Their Luggage

ATHENS -- Two Americans were arrested on Monday, September 20, at the Athens International Airport "El. Venizelos" on a charge of antiquities looting.

According to Greek Police, ancient artifacts were found in a search of their luggage prior to their departure.

Specifically, 14 clear plastic bags and a paper bag containing a total of 65 fragments of ancient vessels and objects were found in the man's luggage, while the woman's bag contained two clear plastic bags with eight fragments of ancient vessels and objects.

Most of them date back to Roman and Byzantine times.

Both were arrested were taken to the Athens Public Prosecutor's Office.
