Greece Breaks Daily Record with Over 3,000 New COVID Cases as Surge Quickens

ATHENS -- Greece announced 3,316 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, including 24 identified at the entry gates of the country, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Thursday.

The number of confirmed infections in Greece since the start of the pandemic totals 66.637 of whom 4,587 are linked to travel abroad and 17,773 to already known cases.

People on ventilators total 310. Their median age is 65 years old, 82.9 pct have an underlying condition or are aged 70 or more, while 88 are women.

Patients discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic total 347.

EODY also said there were another 50 patients who died, bringing the toll of the disease to 959. 

Greece has imposed a nationwide nightly curfew as the number of COVID-19 cases in the country continues to surge despite a lockdown.
