ATHENS -- A woman, 37, who tested positive to the SARS-CoV-2 virus gave birth to a healthy boy at the "Attikon" General Hospital of the University of Athens on Sunday.
The woman, in her 37th week of pregnancy, is not the first case of coronavirus-infected pregnancies in Greece, and this is her first child. In previous cases newborns have tested negative to the virus.
After testing for Covid-19 ahead of a caesarian section, decided because the embryo was developing slowly, she was found positive to the virus but asymptomatic. She was given a C-section at Attikon Hospital around noon and admitted to the special coronavirus ward in the Alexandra Hospital.
The baby was born weighing 2,630 grammes and is in excellent health. He was transferred to the premature babies ward for observation.
