NEW YORK – As so many are struggling during the coronavirus pandemic, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is helping in a variety of ways across the globe. On September 16, the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York), the arts service organization dedicated to supporting nonprofit theaters, announced the launch of a coronavirus relief fund seeded by a gift from SNF for New York City’s small theatres, Deadline reported.

The Relief Fund for NYC Small Theatres is “designed for small stage venues based in or primarily produce in New York City with annual budgets under $250,000,” Deadline reported, adding that “the fund’s unrestricted grants will range from $2,500 to $5,000.”

The announcement was made by A.R.T./New York’s Interim Executive Director Risa Shoup, Deadline reported, adding that in a statement, the organization said, “The Relief Fund will support a vibrant mix of theaters working with diverse aesthetics and serving a wide range of cultural communities across New York City, and companies that are impacting the field in New York City and who have had limited access to relief funding and financial support.”

Applications for the Relief Fund for NYC Small Theatres are now open online and will be reviewed and scored on a rolling basis, Deadline reported, noting that “the first deadline is Monday, October 5, 5 PM ET; the second deadline is Monday, October 19, 5 PM ET; the final deadline is Monday, November 9, 5 PM ET. All applicants will be notified of funding decisions by November 24.”
