ATHENS - For now, we are unable to visit the Greek National Opera (GNO). We can, however, still enjoy some of the magic that experience when we attend a performance in person.

The Greek National Opera is holding its first online festival, titled EXIT: SPRING, from May 17 to June 8, 2020, presenting eleven new music, opera, operetta, and musical theater video performances—created during the pandemic—as well as a prerecorded dance performance.

EXIT: SPRING aims to offer us a digital outing during a spring that might otherwise feel like it never arrived. Piano works by Bach, Schubert, and Tchaikovsky; Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 5, known as the “Spring Sonata;” songs and arias by Poulenc, Massenet, and Mascagni; and Yannis Konstantinidis’s Songs from the Dodecanese are just some of the highlights we will enjoy during the Festival’s video performances by the GNO and other artists, set in unexpected places, with unexpected concepts. The Festival is made possible through a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) that supports the GNO’s artistic outreach.
