ATHENS – The Hellenic Initiative (THI) has supported Mazi gia to Paidi Together for Children with close to a million dollars over the past six years. Part of that support funds the Mazi gia to Paidi 11525 Helpline which offers psychological support to families in need. This helpline is part of Child Help International, a global network of helplines and impact organizations with 173 members spanning 142 countries.

Over 5,000 families a year access the 11525 Helpline.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted efforts to protect our physical health but an often overlooked aspect is the impact this crisis is having on our mental health.

Now that we are staying at home, families who were already in need of support, are suffering even more.

Coupled with the added stress of potential financial insecurities, parents are needing more support than ever. Any mild stress, depression, underlying trauma, and anxiety can also become exacerbated during this time leaving many families searching for help.

“When mothers feel safe, children feel safe and the whole world becomes a better place,” said Maria Alexiadou, Helpline psychologist at Mazi gia to Paidi.

Donations help cover salaries and other operational expenses associated with the 11525 Helpline, keeping mental health professionals working alongside a large number of volunteers while assuring thousands of individuals and families receive the help they need.

Support for THI’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund will help many families in need, as THI noted in an email message about the fund, adding that “together, we are making the world a better place.”
