SYRACUSE, NY – The Bicentennial Committee of the Hellenic Community of Syracuse, spearheaded by Syracuse AHEPA Chapter 37, gathered in front of City Hall and celebrated the 200th Anniversary of the start of the War for Greek Independence, March 25th.
A Hellenic flag, measuring 15 by 25 feet, was displayed in front of City Hall courtesy of Phillip Georgakopoulos, a dedicated Ahepan. The event was well-attended as Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh declared March 25, 2021 as Greek Independence Day. The Greek National Anthem was performed at the event, followed by God Bless America. The flag over City Hall was raised by a young man, Kosta Georgiadis, an honorary member of AHEPA Chapter 37.
