AGAPW Celebrates International Women’s Day and 10 Years of Scholarships

NEW YORK – The Association of Greek American Professional Women (AGAPW) celebrates International Women’s Day and 10 years of AGAPW’s Excellence Tuition Scholarships on Monday, March 8, 7-9 PM EST, via Zoom.

The featured speakers include Dr. Eliana Antoniou, member of AGAPW’s STEM Scholarship Committee, who will speak on the Mathematics Behind the Formation of a Rainbow; Sophia Maria Takvorian, NYU 2021, and 2020 Humanities awardee, who will present her ongoing project Κανείς Εδώ Δεν Τραγουδά (Kaneis Edo Den Tragouda, Nobody Sings Here); and Evagelia Toffoloni, Yale 2020, and 2018 Humanities awardee, who will present her ongoing project An Ode to Our Motherland.

Dr. Pannie Trifillis, AGAPW VP and Chair Humanities Scholarship Committee, will moderate the event.

On Monday, March 22, 7:30-9 PM EST, AGAPW hosts Dr. Maria Efthymiou, Modern Greek History Professor at the Faculty of History & Archeology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in a Q&A on the 200th Year Commemoration of the Greek Independence, via Zoom.

The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Helen LIana Theodoratou and Dr. Anastasia Romanou.

Further details and the distribution of a video of Dr. Efthymiou’s presentation “Πολιτικές και Ιδεολογικές Τομές της Επανάστασης του 1821” (Political and Ideological Perspectives of the 1821 Revolution), soon to be released by the Hellenic Foundation of Culture, are forthcoming.

AGAPW also noted that its Excellence Tuition Scholarships, The Katerina Navab Excellence Tuition Scholarship on Humanities and The Amalia Colombos Excellence Tuition Scholarship in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), offer $1,500 each annually and are awarded to female students of Greek descent enrolled in a four-year accredited Bachelor’s program in the Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Selection criteria are based on academic excellence, contribution to the community and financial need. The applicant must submit a personal statement, a financial statement, and university documents indicating status of enrollment and grades.

Applications are accepted between January 1st and March 15th.

The scholarships will be awarded in March.
