UPPER DARBY, PA – His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America presided over the Salutations to the Virgin Mary service on March 18 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby, PA, with the Evzones, the Presidential Guard of Greece, present, ahead of the Greek Independence Parade in Philadelphia on Sunday, March 20.
The Akathist Hymn is sung in parts in the first four Salutations services, on the first four Fridays of Great Lent. On the fifth Friday, the entire Akathist Hymn is sung. The service on March 18 was the second Salutations service of Great Lent.
