Another Femicide in Greece: Man Threatens Teen Daughter to Kill Wife

ATHENS – Unrelenting violence in Greece against women, at one point seeing two a month being killed, has claimed another victim, a 36-year-old woman shot dead by her husband, luring her back home after threatening to kill their 13-year-old daughter.

No names were given but media reports said the 43-year-old man and his wife were estranged and that he used the threat to get her to come back and once she did he jumped from their first-floor balcony he shot her  with a rifle and then himself.

It wasn’t said where the daughter was at the time but state broadcaster ERT said that the man told his wife that, “If you don’t come home, I will kill the kid,” and that she drove back into an ambush.

The incident occurred in Amfilochia, in the Aetolia-Acarnania regional unit in western Greece, police being notified by neighbors about the sound of gunshots there, finding the bodies just five meters (16 feet) apart.

The incident came two days after the victim filed a lawsuit against her estranged husband for an incident of domestic violence and threats that took place the day before but that police couldn’t find home although he was at home later.

Reports said that despite going to the police and fearing for her safety that she didn’t accept the offer of being put in a safe house nor using a panic button on her phone to alert authorities of danger.
