Anger, Insecurity, Biden… and Greece

There is great anger, hatred, and insecurity in the world today. The partisan labels of the past now have little appeal. People are searching for a deus ex machina to solve their problems. And since miraculous solutions do not exist, these issues will continue to worsen without strong leadership.

Take, for example, the elections held in the past few weeks in France and the United Kingdom. In France, the polls were tragically wrong. Le Pen’s far-right National Rally, which everyone expected to come first, came third, with no party gaining a majority in Parliament, leaving this great country in a state of ungovernability. This does not mean that the far-right was defeated. On the contrary, their voter base increased significantly. Their path to power was merely delayed, not prevented. Indeed, as France is expected to go through a difficult phase of ungovernability, it is certain – if history is a guide – that time will work in their favor.

In the United Kingdom, the Labour party returned to power after 14 years of Conservative governance. It was the worst result in their 190-year history. Such is the anger of the British people.

Meanwhile, in America, the drama surrounding Biden’s health continues. In the NATO press conference last week, he performed better than many feared. For an hour, he answered journalists’ questions with a relatively steady voice, at least for the most part. However, there were also sad moments. For instance, he referred to “Vice President Trump” instead of correctly identifying Kamala Harris. His key officials, who were seated in the front rows of the room, made every effort to remain expressionless, but it was clear they were very worried. This situation cannot continue. One cannot live in fear of what the President of America might say. It is not good for the country – or the world. But it is also not fair to him. It is as if he is being abused. He does not deserve this.

In contrast, the Greek Prime Minister shone once again, participating in the NATO events in Washington. Although Greece is not one of the major countries in NATO, it is nevertheless a country with political stability, developmental progress, and serious leadership. In contrast to what is happening in Europe and America.
