Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
LOS ANGELES, CA – Angeliki ‘Kiki’ Pappas has passed away, according to an announcement by the Saint Sophia Philoptochos Society in Los Angeles. Pappas was a longtime member of the St. Sophia Community along with her late husband Gus John Pappas who passed away in 2016.
The Philoptochos statement said: “We are mourning the passing of Angeliki ‘Kiki’ Pappas. She is survived by three children [Anmarie Booras (Greg), Danae Webster (Greg), Marcus Pappas (Cheri)] and seven grandchildren [Andrew, Athena, Ethan, Connor, Aiden, Stella and Rocco], and many family members and friends.”
In 1963, Greek-American Gus John Pappas was on vacation in Greece where he met a friend and co-worker of his only cousin Maria, Angeliki Bouboutsari, who would ultimately become his wife and the mother of his three children. Gus and Kiki were married in Athens, Greece, on January 19, 1964. They returned together to Los Angeles on February 29, 1964, where they raised their family and became longtime active members of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Los Angeles. They were married for 53 years until his death in 2016.
Pappas was a Past President and longtime Board Member of the Saint Sophia Philoptochos Society. She was also honored as Mother of the Year, the Philoptochos statement noted.
The Trisagion will be held on Sunday, July 21, 6 PM, at Saint Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, 722 Knob Hill Avenue in Redondo Beach, CA. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 10:30 AM, at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1324 S. Normandie Avenue in Los Angeles.
