Andreas Dracopoulos Honored by the New York Landmarks Conservancy

November 10, 2022

ATHENS – On Wednesday, November 3, 2022, the New York Landmarks Conservancy honored Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos at its annual Living Landmarks Celebration.

SNF, with Andreas at the helm, has supported a wide range of projects to preserve cultural heritage in the built world, welcome visitors to landmarks and activate them as sites of community life, and deepen and share knowledge about them.

In New York, SNF supported the transformation of New York Public Library’s central circulating branch into the vibrant Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL) while respecting the building’s history. The Foundation contributed to the creation of the new Statue of Liberty Museum and to the launch of Culture Pass, which gives New Yorkers with a library card free access to a wide range of cultural sites, including two of the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s early projects: the building hosting the National Museum of the American Indian and Fraunce’s Tavern.

In Baltimore, the SNF Parkway Theatre preserves a beautiful historic movie palace as a civic hub for all.

The World Monuments Fund, with which SNF has enjoyed a long and ongoing partnership, works to preserve culturally and historically significant sites around the world in cooperation with local communities and authorities. And the Foundation has supported a number of projects related to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Temple of Apollo Epicurius at Bassae in Greece, Jodrell Bank Observatory in the UK, Saint John Abbey in Müstair, Switzerland, and the Mont-Dauphin Fortifications of Vaubin in France.
