Anastasiades Briefs Abbas on Peace Initiative

 

Nicos Anastasiades, President of the Republic of Cyprus, spoke by telephone this week with Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority. The latter was briefed regarding the Cypriot’s initiative to have Abbas and the Prime Minister of Israel invited to the European Council for separate meetings.

“According to reliable sources, Anastasiades told Abbas that the President of the European Council Donald Tusk plans to invite Abbas and Netanyahu to Brussels and that Tusk will soon visit the Middle East area,” according to the CNA, which added “On his part, Abbas thanked President Anastasiades for his initiative and praised Cyprus` role as an EU member state which knows developments in the region.”
