Alexander’s is an old-school Greek diner that’s been in the Edgewater area of Chicago, long run by Greeks, but now by head chef Luis Mizhquiri, who is of Ecuadorian descent and learned the craft of cooking Greek food from the previous two owners, the Katsafaros and Sfikas families.
He helped run the kitchen at the popular eatery after he came to the United States in the late 1980’s before taking it over in 2019 and keeping the Greek menu he learned how to cook right.
Now his family has opened another one in the North Center area with the same offerings serving breakfast and lunch dishes like pancakes, waffles, omelettes, skillets, burgers, soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts, said BlockClubChicago.
Over the winter, the diner’s homemade soups are one of the more popular menu items, said Diana Mizhquiri, one of the owners.
They know how to give back too. During the holidays they had a free winter dinner for people who are food insecure, unhoused, and didn’t have a place go to.
“We wanted to continue to offer a warm place to go eat,” Mizhquiri said.
