Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
ATHENS – The contractor that undertook the salvage of the oil tanker “Agia Zoni II” which sank near Salamina Island in early September informed the Port Authority of Piraeus it is starting its work to pull the vessel from the bottom of the sea, the Shipping ministry said.
The 3,200-dwt ship carried about 2,200 tons of fuel oil and 370 tons of marine gas oil. Cleanup operations are continuing in Salamina and the southern coast of Attica where the oil slick spread.
“Spanopoulos Group responds to the orders of the Minister of Shipping Panagiotis Kouroumplis and the Piraeus Port Authority and proceeds with all the necessary actions for the immediate salvage and removal of the Agia Zoni II shipwreck to eliminate any adverse consequences from the existence of the shipwreck of any risk that could damage the marine environment further,” the company said.
